Bob was born and raised in Fresno, California. He received his Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Fresno State University, and a Master of Science in Taxation from San Joaquin College of Law. Bob became a Certified Public Accountant in December 1973. On February 22, 2006, Bob was elected to the Board of Directors of the National Association of Estate Planners and Councils as an Accredited Estate Planner (AEP).
Bob is a past President and member of the Fresno Estate Planning Council, the San Joaquin Valley Planned Gifts Council, and past Chair and member of the San Joaquin Valley Leave A Legacy Organization. He has chaired and co-chaired conferences sponsored by the California Society of CPA’s, including the Annual Farm Tax and Accounting Conference, The Annual Estate Planning Conference, and the Annual Advanced Estate Planning Institute. He has been a long-time volunteer member on planning committees for the Annual Farm Tax and Accounting conference and the Advanced Estate Planning Institute, produced by the California CPA Education Foundation. In addition, he received the award for “Outstanding Conference Volunteer of the Year,” as presented by the California Society of CPA’s Education Foundation. Bob is also involved with non-profit organizations, acting as a member of the Board of Directors of St. Agnes Medical Center Foundation and is President-Elect of the Society of Financial Service Professionals.
Bob has been a frequent lecturer on Estate and Trust Taxation and Planning Issues for numerous organizations, some of which include: The American Institute of CPA’s, The California Society of CPA’s, and the Association of Financial Professionals. Topics have included: (1) Estate and Income Tax Planning for Closely-Held Farm Operations; (2) Post Mortem Trust Administration and Funding; (3) Use of Life Insurance in Closely-Held Business Operations; (4) Gifts and Sales to Intentionally Defective Grantor Trusts; (5) Recent Developments in Estate Planning; and (6) Planned Giving Techniques Utilizing Charitable Remainder and Lead Trusts.
Bob has authored various articles on Estate and Trust matters including: “Life Insurance Alternatives for the Family Business Owner,” published in The Journal of Taxation of Estates and Trusts, and “Keeping the Farm in the Family,” published by Commerce Clearing House in the Estate and Financial Planning Journal.
